Pink pearlescent crocs remind me of giant tampon applicators.

Howtoshipyourdeadcathome’s post is one of those “oh yeah, gross”, didn’t think of it until you said it but you’re absolutely right!  I work at a community garden and we get a HUGE pile of leaves from the city that we compost and turn into dirt.  The city collects the leaves from the streets and, especially at first, we find a lot of ‘treasures’—trash and dog toys and skateboards and solitary shoes and stuffed animals and little army guys—in the pile.  The kids who come to the love to pull out the trash and throw it away and they love finding the real treasure to wash up and put in our “Friends of the Leaf Pile” basket.  We had a very earnest group of 4th graders come out and they were finding lots of things in the pile. We were guessing and imagining what some things had fallen off of or what they might have been when one little girl ran up and asked, “What do you think this is??  It’s cool looking!” She held up a gem colored green tampon applicator. I almost didn’t have a response, but managed, “Oh wow!  I don’t know, here let me take it.”
