When I was very little, one of the absolute best parts of going to our cabin up north was that the airport office had a taxidermy fox that was the exact same height as me! He had glassy eyes and the softest fur and I could pet him and love him and kiss him as much as I wanted. When the office was remodeled, they somehow found they didn’t have use for foxy anymore (some people just don’t have any taste) and he luckily was sent home with my dad. He still stands proudly in my dad’s hanger, his paw skin starting to come unglued from the mount, but his pride unwavering. We still enjoy a good snuggle or two when we’re together, but those times are few and far between now. So, imagine my surprise and elation when I ran into foxy’s one-eared cousin at the Mt. Pisgah Visitor’s Center in Eugene! Same pose, same glassy eyes, same little stump. It was like an old-time family reunion! Foxy—I hope you’re out there seeing this-this one’s for you!
